About the Department

The purpose of the Department of Special Education is to train special education teachers who provide students with disabilities and people with special educational needs with education that is appropriate to their situations, so that they can better adapt to society, develop their abilities, and ultimately improve their quality of life. Students who enter the Department of Special Education are able to understand the education and culture of the university by taking basic liberal arts and core liberal arts courses, and are able to take the major foundation course Understanding and Rehabilitation of Disabilities, and the major elective courses Special Education and Rehabilitation Practice and Education of Students with Intellectual Disabilities.

From the second year onwards, special education students can choose to specialize, specialize with indicative subjects, or double major to complete the curriculum, and upon graduation, obtain the relevant secondary special education teacher level 2 certificate (national certification). The curriculum of the Department of Special Education is different from the curriculum of other universities' special education departments in that it focuses on vocational education for youth with disabilities. Therefore, in addition to the secondary special teacher certificate, students can obtain two additional certifications, unique to our university: a rehabilitation counselor for the disabled (national certification) and a vocational evaluator for the disabled (private certification).
